‘Interstellar’ main character turns into bus driver who rescues 23 children from catastrophic fire

Zing Muse – Apple TV+ has just released the first trailer for , a work inspired by the book Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire by author Lizzie Johnson. The film recreates the survival efforts during the 2018 Camp Fire – the most devastating wildfire disaster in the history of the state of California, USA.

In the trailer, which is more than two minutes long, the character Kevin (played by Kevin), a bus driver who has lost his route, suddenly receives a distress signal on the radio. He has to go to Ponderosa Elementary School to pick up 23 students trapped in the sea of fire. As the fire spreads rapidly and the whole town is blocked by traffic congestion, Kevin and teacher Mary () together put the students on the bus and find a way to escape the fire.

According to the introduction from Apple, The Lost Bus is a breathtaking journey of ordinary people when faced with extraordinary situations. The story highlights the quiet courage and solidarity between people who have never known each other.

Starring in the film, Matthew McConaughey continues to exploit his inner strengths through the image of a quiet but determined man, facing danger to save the lives of children in the midst of a forest fire disaster. This is a character type that has many similarities with the roles that made his name in works with humanistic and psychological tension.

Having won the Oscar for Best Actor for Dallas Buyers Club (2013), McConaughey is known as one of Hollywood’s most impressive transformations. He has shed his “pretty boy” image specializing in romantic films early in his career to enter a “renaissance era” with complex and profound roles in (2014) and the TV series True Detective (2014).

The Lost Bus is directed by Paul Greengrass, who is known for making projects that require realism and have a documentary, realism style. The film will premiere at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival, open in a limited number of theaters on September 19 and be released online on Apple TV+ from October 3.
